REFRACTION - No. 2

EVENT: LUZA FESTIVAL 2019

LOCATION: FARO, PORTUGAL

MISSION: AUDIOVISUAL INSTALLATION

YEAR: 2019, NOVEMBER

#refraction THE TERM

Any transparent object whose mass differs from the air leads to refraction. A ray of light gets broken. In physics, refraction is the change in direction of a wave that transitions from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium.

Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenome- non, but other waves such as sound waves and water waves also experience refraction. How much a wave is broken depends on the change of the wave velocity and the initial direction of the wave propagation relative to the velocity change.

refraction - No. 2 TRIPLE AV INSTALLATION

For the Luza Festival 2019 in Faro (Portugal) TOFA was invited to show the next level of his original artpiece "refraction", this time with a room-filling triple-projection as an audiovisual walkable installation.

For the setup he used two mirrored projections to screen onto the mirror foiled floor and a third projection on the wall to create a fusion between the original minimalistic animations and its reproducing refractions by the reflecting lightbeams.

The mapping-projection was creating a a fusion of the overlapping  layers and the reflecting room itself and created a stunning collage of morphing visuals.

Especially the wooden ceiling created an outstanding atmosphere to the room and embraced the festival visitors with a deep warm lightplay of refractions and linear graphics.

By projecting straight on the mirror-foil, the clean rendered graphics become a new analog aesthetic and let you dive into an underwater-world of obscure refractions and beautiful light-deformations.

Bending the original lightsource threw glossy highend mirror foil, this installation creates a sacred stage with a living minimalistic but constantly changing structure to push the visitor into an immersive look.
