refraction-2S2A0252-web-by-Chris-Noelle.

CLIENT: FREE ARTWORK

EVENT: TAKE FESTIVAL

SPONSOR: ASLAN SCHWARZ

MISSION: IMMERSIVE AV INSTALLATION

YEAR: 2019, MAY

This is a solo artwork by our team member Chris Noelle that was first shown at Take Festival, Vienna in May 2019.

The audiovisual installation was shown to the public for the first time delivering immersive access for the spectators in a floor-mapped reflecting mirror room.

#refraction THE TERM

Any transparent object whose mass differs from the air leads to refraction. A ray of light gets broken. In physics, refraction is the change in direction of a wave that transitions from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium.

Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenome- non, but other waves such as sound waves and water waves also experience refraction. How much a wave is broken depends on the change of the wave velocity and the initial direction of the wave propagation relative to the velocity change.

#refraction THE INSTALLATION

With the immersive installation "#refraction", I refer to the omnipresent hitech-rendered 3D world of ourdays life where I re-use mapping-projection to de-cluster this perfect lipgloss-hitech world brought to you by VR and big VFX studio productions.

By projecting straight on the mirro-foil, the clean rendered graphics become a new analog aesthetic and let you dive into an underwater-world of obscure refractions and beautiful light-deformations.

Bending the original lightsource threw glossy highend mirror foil, this installation creates a sacred stage with a living minimalistic but constantly changing structure to embrace the visitor within its immersive look.

A big "Thank You!" goes out to mirrorfoil sponsor @aslan_schwarz, giving the installation-look an amazing twist at @take.festival,
